Wendell Dennis Collver was born on August 11, 1932 in South Bend, Indiana. His parents were Carl Burton and Hester (Mathias) Collver. Wendell was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Gail (Woodhurst), his eldest son Terry, two sisters, and two brothers.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Mary (Diekman), son Jeff (Cindy) and daughter, Kim Ewing (Paul); four grandchildren, Scott Collver (Jaimie Sligh), Cari (Chad) Gray, Cristin (Herbie) Woolworth, Matthew (Liz) Collver; three step-grandchildren, Mallory (Andrew) Fugate, Melissa Thurston, Marc (Megan) Thurston and their children; seven great grandchildren; his youngest sister Janice Augsbury; brother-in-law Bill (Linda) Diekman, sister’s-in-law Dee (Dennis) Nelson and Alice Meloy and families.
Wendell was a biology teacher, high school principal and a Uniserv Director for the Michigan Education Association. He was a volunteer firefighter, Sunday School teacher, Boy Scout leader and served in many other leadership roles. Fishing, hunting, and skiing were his favorite outdoor activities. Spending time with his family gave him true joy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 27th at Brookside United Methodist Church, 4000 Francis Street. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm and the Service at 2:00pm. Please feel free to make donations to Brookside United Methodist Church.
