Thomas "Tom" Chambers Obituary

Thomas P.  “Tom”  Chambers

Rives Junction, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather unexpectedly passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024.  Born December 27, 1951, in Jackson, Michigan.  Tom graduated from Vandercook High School in 1969.  He attended mechanic school in Grand Rapids, MI.  He worked as a mechanic at the AutoHaus and also Vandercook Shell.  He began his career with Glick Iron and Metal, which became Jackson Iron and Metal, and later OmniSource where he worked in many positions, but mostly as a crane operator.  He retired after 50 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Janet L. Chambers, who he married on August 28, 1976; 3 children, Kelly (Laura) Chambers, Amy Chambers, and Joseph Chambers; 3 grandchildren, Alexis Chambers, Jordyn Chambers, and Kasey Chambers; 2 great-grandchildren Sophia Miller and Amyra Wiltrout; brother, Kenneth Chambers; sister-in-law, Susan Chambers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;  Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Annie Chambers; brother, David Chambers; nephew, Trevor Chambers; great-nephew, Brandon Chambers.

The Celebration of Tom’s Life will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Roseland Memorial Gardens’ Chapel with Michael D. Mason officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Thursday prior to services.  For those wishing, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Tom.  Please express your condolences to the family at www.watson-funeral-chapels.com.

Tom was “Mr. Fix-It”, a tinkerer, who loved working with his hands, and could fix just about anything.  He was extremely creative, and built many inventions that started as simple ideas.  He loved his family and would drop everything to lend them a hand ensuring their needs were taken care of.  No task was too large.  He loved engaging in conversation with all and brought his unique wit and humor to every interaction.  He never stopped moving, was a workaholic that loved learning even as his health started to deteriorate.  He will be greatly missed by many.
