Sterett, Thomas Anthony of Jonesville, MI, left us too soon on Saturday, January 18, 2025, dying unexpectedly of natural causes at the age of 52. Tom was born in Jackson, MI on February 11, 1972, to parents that he absolutely adored, Bob and Kathy Sterett, who preceded him in death and have surely welcomed him to his heavenly home. Family meant everything to Tom, and he is survived by his sisters Paula (Rich) Kohler, Kris (Dale) Vermilye, Nicole (Doug) Cure, his twin brother Rob (Gina) Sterett, his nieces Lauren, Erin, Maggie, Hadley, Hillary, Raegan, Ellery, and Carly, his nephews Tony, Joe, Andrew, and Grant, his precious aunts Helen Lamberson, Kathleen Sterett, and Nanci Chapel, and several cousins and classmates who were near and dear to his big heart. He also lovingly raised several golden retrievers through the years, most recently Sheldon and Leonard. Our family get-togethers and celebrations will never be the same without Uncle Tom being there with us. Tom’s booming voice, jovial personality, and loving anecdotes filled the room. His laughter and love for simple togetherness will be sorely and affectionately missed.
Tom is a Titan forever as a graduate of Lumen Christi High School. He became a professional college student running Track at Siena Heights University and then attending Eastern Michigan University, Baker College of Jackson, and Grand Valley University before settling into his profession of true-calling, sales. Our Dad used to say that Tom could sell snowballs to an Eskimo! He enjoyed his professional life and loved his coworkers like family at Belson Asphalt Paving, where he spent the last decade of his career.
To say that Tom was a huge Detroit Lions fan would be an understatement. “This is our year!” was his battle cry at the beginning of every season, no matter what. Tom was a diehard fan not only of the Lions, but of the Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers, and the Michigan Wolverines--football, basketball, hockey, and baseball. Most importantly, Tom was a man of strong faith who felt blessed and would choose joy every day. He knew that God had a plan for him, and as recently as last week proclaimed, “The trials of life are temporary, but God’s promise of eternal life is forever!” Now he’s walking hand-in- hand with his Savior, which brings us all through our grief and loss to a place of joy, comfort and peace.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Watson Funeral Chapel – 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan where friends and family can gather to pay their respects and reminisce about the good times in our lives that were made better because Tom was there.
