Thomas James Green, 86, of Jackson, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 16, 2024. He was born to Thomas and Iva Green in Hudson, Michigan, on February 25, 1938. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1956, and having been awarded a scholarship from M&S Manufacturing Company, he then went on to the University of Michigan and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. Tom married Dona M. (Hess) on April 1, 1961, and was the proud father of four children, Lisa, Mike and James (identical twins), and Kim. Tom was drafted into the United States Army and served in inactive duty as an Engineer. He worked for many years at Consumers Power Company, then ended his career as Vice President/General Manager of CMS Utility Services, Inc. and most recently, was an independent agent for Avion Business Services Atlanta, GA. Tom was also on the Board of Regents for Baker College of Jackson, was on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Vista Grande Villa, was on the Board of Directors for Itron, and was a member of their Automated Meter Reading Advisory Panel; was a Chairman for the Michigan Utility Association Gas Section Executive Committee; was Chairman for the Michigan Public Service Commission Task Force; was a member of the AGA National Space Heating Efficiency Improvement Committee; and was the President of the Jackson Exchange Club.
Tom enjoyed baseball, hot rods, putting together puzzles, walking his dog Sammy, and reading, but his favorite thing to do was to watch or attend University of Michigan football games. In January 1998, he attended the Rose Bowl and watched the Wolverines play in Pasadena.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Iva Green, brother James, and sisters Ruth Dean and Ginny Hirsch, sister-in-law Dian Kwiatkowski, son James Patrick Green, and grandson Justin James Reimer. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dona (Hess), and children Lisa (Kevin) Sivils, Mike (Agnieszka) Green, and Kim (Gary) Reimer; grandchildren Daniel, Katie, Emily, Josh, and Trevor; and also nine great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law Jerome Kwiatkowski.
The family would like to thank the staff of Henry Ford Alligance Hospice Home for their loving and professional care for our family during this difficult time.
The family will receive guests at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 22nd at 275 W Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI 49201. A service of the celebration of Tom’s life will then follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be private in Lenawee County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Birthline (Protecting Life), 1000 E. Porter St. Jackson, MI 49202.
