Tau’aika Ta’ane ‘Uhila, 62, passed away on August 22, 2020 at 10:24PM at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. Tau was born on the Island of Kapa, Tonga, on February 23, 1958 to Tevita and Lea ‘Uhila. He was married to Jane Marie Dunigan in 1993 in Maui, Hawaii. He had three children, Lea (Navid) Javadi, Tau, and Josephine. Two grandchildren, Damian and Kayvon. He was survived by his three sisters, Lusinita Filikitonga, Siunipa Mateialona, Kaloni Tongotongon.
Tau’s hardworking career of stone masonry, will leave Jackson and many cities, surrounded by his art for years far beyond. He was a true artist. When he wasn’t building with stone, he was building his collection of paintings of sea life, tropical plants, and many things that reminded him of his life on the island of Tonga. He lived his life always placing God at the center and living in awe of the world God created. His love for nature will resonate through many who were touched by his outlook. Tau always took time to watch the sunset because he understood its beauty and significance of telling time. He now lives within every sunrise and sunset.
Before Tau passed, it was important the community knew how thankful he was for their kindness and giving him the opportunity to live the American dream.
Services will be private for family only. For those interest in donating in honor of Tau, please consider Ella Sharp Park Museum, 3225 Fourth St., Jackson, MI 49203.
