Sylvia L Allen

Sylvia Allen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother was lovingly welcomed into the arms of Jesus on October 10, 2025, at the age of 90 surrounded by the love of her family and her two beloved dogs. Born to Clarence and Jewell Bryan in Roe, Arkansas, Sylvia was the second of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death.

She married Joe Allen on September 3, 1951, and shared 57 wonderful years with him until his passing on February 29, 2008. Together, they raised eight children: Nelva Jean (Ellis), Roger Michael (Barbara), Bennett Arlan (who preceded her in death and welcomed her into heaven), Arthur Lee, Jimmy Lynn, Joanna, Mary Elizabeth, and Melissa Ann (Jeff). She also lovingly raised her grandson, Austin Lee, as her own. Sylvia’s family grew to include 11 grandchildren, and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

On March 24, 2014, Sylvia married Wisemond “Blue” Salyer, who survives her.

Sylvia had a deep love for serving at Heeney Road Baptist Church and devoted her life to being a mother. When she wasn’t spending time with family or helping others, she enjoyed garage sales, thrift shopping, finding freebies, and southern cooking, no one ever left her home hungry. She also loved gardening and worked various jobs well into her 70s. She was and could be Fierce if you messed with her family; she was also a ray of sunshine.

Sylvia will be deeply missed, cherished, and remembered for the love, laughter, and light she brought into the lives of everyone around her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Watson Funeral Chapel – 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan beginning at 11:00am with the Funeral Service held at Noon, with Reverend David Bolen, Officiating.
