Steven Fater Obituary

Fater, Steven Craig of Grass Lake, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 30, 2025.  Born September 18, 1950, in Pontiac, MI.  Steve retired from Michigan Bell – Ameritech as a Telecommunications  Technician, which included the installations of Enhanced 911 systems, after 30 years of service.  He enjoyed hunting waterfowl and upland game. Fishing in Wawa Ontario Canada, downhill skiing in Aspen, Colorado. As well as the many canoe trips with family and friends over the years.

Steve’s dedication to training his dogs for waterfowl and upland game for hunting and field trials was never ending; which contributed to Steve's love of Ducks Unlimited.

After suffering a stroke nearly 20 years ago, Steve fought long and hard to stay active; finding a new way to live and taking each step in stride. The determination this man showed encouraged those around him.  Even when he struggled to communicate, he would still find a way.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Janice ”Jan” Fater, whom he married June of 1971; 2 children, Laura Ann Beutler, and Steven Craig Fater, II; 2 grandsons, Lucas Owen Beutler, and Cole Joseph Beutler; and many other family members and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine D. and Floyd W. Fater; daughter, Barbara Lynn Fater and grandchildren, Jacob and Faith Beutler.

The Celebration of Steve’s Life will be March 22nd, 2025 at 2:00 pm, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 309 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI 49201 with The Rev. Jadon D. Hartsuff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Steve may be made to Ducks Unlimited (sfater01@gmail.com)
