Stanley DeLand of Jackson MI, age 81, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025 at his residence. Although he was a quiet man, Stan had a way of making people smile and laugh. He was a great
listener and always had a story to tell about his long-lived past. Stan could build or fix just about anything and was primarily self-taught. He also loved to hunt and fish and his favorite place to
hunt was Colorado. His attitude was always positive, and he never liked to be late for anything! During Stan’s younger years, he went to live with an Aunt and Uncle on their working farm. He worked day to day chores that came with running a farm in addition to working in the slaughterhouse. This is where Stan learned the art of butchery. Throughout most of his adult life, Stan worked as a journeyman butcher for various retail grocers including Meijer where he worked until the time of his death.
Stan is survived by his daughter Dawn (Duke) Cain, Grandson Dustin (Çate) Cain of Bellevue; his son Doug (Karen) DeLand, Grandson Kole DeLand and Grandson Jarrett (Brittney) DeLand of
Marshall, and several nieces and nephews. His partner of 14 years, Kimi James who was the “love of his life” and he was hers. Stan is also survived by the children of Kimi: Daughter Ashley
(Will) Johnson, Son Conner James; Granddaughters Maya and Blake Johnson of Dexter. He was preceded in death by brothers John and Stuart DeLand; Mother, Gladys “Rusty”
DeLand; and father, John Stuart DeLand. Stan was well loved and will be greatly missed. A celebration of Stan’s life will be held at a later date.
