Shirley Ann (Wilkin) Tingle

On Sunday, November 5th Shirley Ann (Wilkin) Tingle, loving wife and mother, passed away at the John Ganton Countryside Care Center at the age of 84. 

Born August 2, 1939 in rural Albia, Iowa, she was the daughter of John Wilkin and Florence Gray.  On November 23, 1958 in Eddyville, Iowa she married Jack T. Tingle. After living with Jack in Des Moines, Iowa, Little Rock, Arkansas, Livonia, Michigan and Lansing, Michigan where they raised their family,  they retired in 2001 to split time between East Lansing, MI and Apache Junction, AZ.   They had recently relocated to John Ganton’s Countryside Assisted Living in Jackson, MI.

Shirley enjoyed her immediate and extended family sharing, vacations, camping, family reunions, years of games with siblings, children, grandchildren.   Her true passion was being a servant through her mission work with Jack in the Appalachian Service Project, Methodist NOMADS, and as camp hosts at Lake Junaluska SEJ Retreat Center.

Shirley was a secretary serving the United Methodist Church for over 20 years between Nardin Park UMC, Detroit Annual Conference and the Michigan Area Episcopal Office retiring in 2001.   This service came on the heels of a lifetime of volunteering in her various church families.   She was a member of Asbury UMC, now Sycamore Creek Church Eastwood.

She was preceded in death by siblings, JI, Willy, and Jimmy Wilkin.   Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jack, daughter Jacquelyn Dunlap (Joe), son Scott Tingle (Beth), son Randy Tingle (Wendy), son Curtis Tingle (Kelly), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and siblings Grace Francis (Ronnie), Kathleen Wilkin, Arch Wilkin (Karen).  

Family and friends may call from 10:00am-11:00am on Wednesday, November 8th at Sycamore Creek Church Eastwood immediately followed by a memorial celebration of life with Reverend Tom Arthur officiating.
