William (Bill) Stewart (7/9/1906-3/15/1982) and Cora Stewart (10/14/1972) were the proud parents of Shirley Stewart, who was born on Tuesday, August 19, 1947 in Jackson, Michigan, but passed away at the age of 77 years at home. Her immediate family has all passed with the exception of one sister, Evelyn Woods (Dolly) of Jackson. Siblings who have passed are William M. Stewart (3/3/1928-5/3/1996) of Toledo, Ohio; Ralph D. Stewart (12/29/1929-2/12/2005) of Toledo, Ohio; Vernon Steward (10/5/1937-4/14/2014) of Lancaster, California; Charles Stewart (1/29/1942) of Jackson Michigan; Freddie (Fred) Stewart (7/9/1943-5/20/2014) of Jackson, Michigan.
Shirley began her career at Consumers Energy during her senior year at Jackson High School. She was so committed that she remained working at Consumers Energy until she reached retirement age. Shirley’s personal life was enhanced by her love for dogs, and over the years, she would own several fur babies, one at a time, who gave her lots of love and joy. She also found excitement in traveling – discovering new places and making lasting memories. After retirement, she embraced her free time for such activities as shopping, savoring tasty meals with family and friends, and taking in as many good movies as possible.
Cherished memories are being carried on by her sister, Evelyn Woods, of Jackson, Michigan; LaVena Wilder (Gerard) of Houston, Texas; Lisa Stewart of Jackson, Michigan; Mark Stewart of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Becca Sours of Battle Creek, Michigan; the adult children of Ralph Stewart in different cities of Ohio, other extended family members, and many significant friends, one among many is Kathy Ballance.
Her legacy will endure in the lives she touched over the years, and although she will be deeply missed, her memory will be carried on through those she touched.
In place of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to honor Shirley, whose final resting place will be Woodland Cemetery in Jackson, Michigan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Watson Funeral Chapel – 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan from 10:00am until 11:00am. The Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am with Michael D. Mason, Officiating. Inurnment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
