Shirley Jean Cochran, 72, of Jackson, Michigan passed away peacefully at home Monday, December 8, 2025.
Shirley was born on January 26, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio to Paul Eugene Hocter Sr. and Dorothy Virginia (Webber) Hocter aka “Dot” who both preceded her in death.
Shirley was a graduate of Linden-McKinley High School, Columbus, Ohio and longtime resident of Glen Dale, West Virginia before moving to Jackson, Michigan.
Shirley was an avid bowler, holding the women's high score record for months at Reilley's Bowling Alley in Glen Dale, WV, an accomplishment for which she was very proud. Like her father, Shirley was very handy and known to change the oil, even the brakes on her favorite car “Betsy” a Chrysler Fifth Avenue. She was less successful in tinkering with vacuum cleaners and sent many to their demise. Crocheting was her favorite hobby and she made many blankets, doily’s, head bands, clothes, pillows, and pot holders. She enjoyed creating things and she especially loved butterflies, KFC, and a good T-Bone steak.
Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her ex-husband, and love of her life, John Albert Cochran Sr. (Sweetie Face), Grandparents Tim P. and Bertha Hocter, Mildred Webber, Joseph Webber Sr. numerous loved ones in the Hocter, Webber, Crooks and Cochran families.
Shirley leaves behind her daughters Amy Jo (Cochran) Corvino (Moundsville, WV) her free spirted first born and Jamie Lynn Cochran (Omaha, NE) her mini me: grandchildren, Tristan Nicole Cochran (Moundsville, WV), Andy Scott (Wheeling, WV), Ethan Joseph Corvino (Moundsville, WV): great-grandchildren Ava Rayford (Wheeling, WV): and Kayden and Mariana Scott (Wheeling, WV) :siblings Dorothy (Dennis) Maccagnone (Florida), Paula (George) Showalter (Columbus, OH), and Paul (Karen) Hocter Jr. (Leesburg, FL): special aunt, Alison Webber (Sunbury, OH); several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Service arrangements are pending and will be held at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, Hilliard, Ohio with internment at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Hilliard, Ohio.
