Ruth Ella Newland

Ruth Ella Newland of Jackson, MI passed away on April 12, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born May 7, 1942 in Plymouth, MI.  Ruth is survived by her five children, Scott Petrie, Janice (Ron) Igoe, Pamela VanSumeren, Christine Fuller, and Donald Petrie; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Kathy McNally and Karen Hemminger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Newland; great-grandson, Braxton Petrie; and son-in-law, Mike VanSumeren. Ruth worked and retired after 20 years of service from Vandercook Lake Public Schools. She enjoyed playing games, knitting, and baking. Ruth loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 2469 Woodlake Circle, Suite 100, Okemos, MI 48864 or American Breast Cancer Association, 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway Suite 480, Columbia, MD 21044.  The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, masks are required for all entering the building with a capacity limit of 25 people at a time.
