Rose Marie Conner

Rose passed away Monday, June 17, 2025 in Jackson, MI.  Rose was born in Jackson, MI to the late Effie Mae Edwards and J.T. Evans on August 17, 1954.  She graduated from Parkside High in 1972 and also graduated from Jackson Community College in 1976.  Rose married in 1978.  Rose was an active member of Lily Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for several years.  Rose worked at Spartan Company for many years and also was on the company softball team.  Shortly after she began to work for  MDOC in 1991 and retired in 2016 after 25 years.  In 2021, she came out of retirement and began working at St. Vincent DePaul for 3 years.  In her spare time Rose would crochet blankets and hats for new additions to

the family and  also loved to cook and bake.  Rose was known for her famous spaghetti and caramel pound cake.  Rose was the rock of her family and loved spending time with loved ones.  Rose later became a member of Oasis of Love Church where she gained a new church family. 

Rose was proceeded in death by mother, Effie Mae Edward; father, J.T. Evans; stepfather, Charles Edwards, Sr.; grandmother, Florence Moody; grandfather, Mr. Moody; grandmother, Lucille Bills; grandfather, Tegue Lackey; brothers, Clyde Williams, Melvin Evans, and Charles George Edwards, Jr.

Rose leaves to cherish a daughter, Shirmara Conner; a son, Marquise Coleman of Jackson, MI; grandchildren, Na’zhai Journey, Nariah Harrell, King Coleman, and Omani Coleman all of Jackson, MI; great-grandson, Azai Johnson of Jackson, MI; brother, Jerome Evans; sister, Davada (Robert) Edwards, Lucille (Micheal) Reynolds all of Jackson, MI and one sister and two brothers from down South; aunt, Lucille Johnson of Jackson, MI; special friend, Larry Coleman; best friends, Viloa Sigers of California; and her partner as they called each other Tanya “Lee” Bailey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Homegoing services will be 12:00 Noon Friday, July 11, 2025 at Oasis of Love Church, 800 S. Cooper Street, Jackson, MI 49203 with Pastor Corey Pryor officiating.  Family hour will be from 11:00 a.m. Friday till service time at church.  Visitation will be Thursday, July 10 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Rd, Jackson, MI 49203.
