Roger David Thome

In loving memory of Roger David Thome, December 17, 1939 – July 11, 2026

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Roger Thome, who peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on July 11, 2026, at the age of 86. While our hearts grieve, we rejoice in God’s promise that those who trust in Christ will have everlasting life. Faith was the foundation of Roger’s life, finding strength, peace, and purpose in God’s word. He faithfully worshiped at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish.

Roger was born on December 17, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert Thome and Rose Branno.

Throughout life, he was known for his unwavering faith, service to others, and steadfast love for his family and friends, reflecting Christ’s love in both words and deeds. Roger attended Roger Bacon High School and upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was a Morse Code operator, stationed in Kamiseya, Japan, and proudly climbed Mount Fuji. Following his honorable discharge, he entered religious life serving as a Franciscan Brother and while there taught himself the theory of court reporting. When he left the Order, he attended court reporting school and became a court reporter and later president at ACME Court Reporters in Detroit, Michigan. Later in 1984, he opened his own firm, ACRO Court Reporters in Jackson, Michigan, becoming a mentor and friend to many other court reporters. In 1994 he became President of the

Michigan Association of Professional Court Reporters (MAPCR), and received awards for his many years of service, writing “Out of the Fog,” a history of the state association, and for his pro bono work.

He worked 33 years alongside his beloved spouse and partner in life, Mary Sue Thome, his co-owner and office manager, until they retired in August 2017.

As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, he left a lasting impression on those blessed to know him. Roger is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Sue Thome and their children, Jennifer (Fred) Hoffman, MD, Daniel (Colleen) Thome, Lori (Chad) Silveus, Scott (Gwendolyn) Stewart, and Marc (Rebecca) Stewart. He dearly loved and leaves behind 11 grandchildren who mourn his passing: Jacob, Adam, and Alexandra Thome, Leo Hoffman, Landen and Locklyn Silveus, Drew Stewart and Maureen (Alec) Atkins, Anthony, Brantley, and Beau Stewart. He is survived by his sister, Maria (Vince) Costello of Cincinnati, Ohio, sisters- in-law Mary Ellen and Luba Thome. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Frank and Robert Thome, and Roberta Fisher, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family sincerely thanks Elara Caring, especially Nurses Sarah and Alexis, and Elaina, Care Tech, for their compassionate care of Roger. We also wish to thank our dear neighbors and friends, who were always there when we needed them most.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 with Visitation beginning at 10:00am until noon with mass held at 12:00pm at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish with Father Timothy MacDonald presiding over the Mass of Christian Burial. Inurnment will follow mass at St. John Catholic Cemetery with Honors by The American Legion.
