Robert Keeler Obituary

Robert Eugene Keeler of Jackson, MI, born January 15, 1931, in Hamlin Township, Eaton County, Michigan, passed away on April 14, 2026. He shared a loving marriage of 75 years with Erlene Mae (England) Keeler. Together, they raised two children: Donald E. Keeler (Pamela) of Daphne, AL, and Cheryl L. Broughton (David) of Parma, MI. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, children, and six grandchildren: Nicole Broughton Adams (Brian), Robert Broughton (Gabbie), Michelle Wonderly (Dan), Christopher Keeler (Jessica), Jarrod Keeler (Stephanie), and Leanne Keeler. He was also a proud great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren. Robert was the youngest son of Bertha Emma (Kikendall) Keeler and Lloyd Ira Keeler and was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers—Arthur, Roy, Lewis, Forrest, Lloyd (Howard), Ronald, Charles (Chuck), Van—and one sister, Carrie. He was also predeceased by his grandson, Nathan Keeler, and his great-grandson, Issac Keeler.

Robert attended Springport High School and began his professional journey as a mechanic, working under Russ Fin, a small business owner in Springport, and later for his older brother, Charles (Chuck) Keeler, who owned Keeler's Garage. Chuck and Russ not only instructed Robert in technical skills but also helped instill in him core values and a deep respect for others. Certified as a professional mechanic in the State of Michigan, Robert eventually owned Keeler’s Kingspoint, located on M-60 and King Road in Jackson, MI, near Spring Arbor. He was a respected businessman, a first-time employer for many, and a mentor to numerous young men. Robert was known for providing support, guidance, and common-sense advice, often helping boys from the community as well as his employees. Many are grateful for the mentoring and encouragement he offered, reflecting the support he himself had received in his youth.

In his early years, Robert served for nine years in the Michigan Army National Guard and volunteered as a firefighter in both Eaton Rapids and Springport, MI. When living in Spring Arbor, he held the local volunteer firefighters in high regard and supported their efforts whenever possible.

After retiring as a mechanic, Robert remained active within his community as a tow truck operator and owner of Keeler’s Towing, providing affordable services and often being the first contact for local sheriff department emergency calls. Always ready to help, regardless of the hour or weather, Robert’s commitment to service never wavered. In his later years, he could often be found in his home garage, working on projects or helping with his grandchildren’s cars—always enjoying the opportunity to be involved in their lives. Robert was a dedicated member of Sandstone Congregational Church, where he served as a leader and active congregant, supporting the church community for many years. Robert requested simple graveside services as his only memorial, with interment at Springport Cemetery.
