Robert Charles Dodge passed away peacefully Tuesday June 27, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Bob was born in Jackson, Michigan on December 4, 1932 and lived most of his life in his beloved city. He graduated from Jackson High School continuing on to Jackson Community College. He earned his Engineering degree from Michigan Technological University and went on to obtain his Professional Engineer certificate. He started and spent most of career with Consumers Power pausing to serve his country in the Navy Seabees.
He married Justina (Fox) on June 25, 1955 and was a loving father to Colette Akers (Jerry) of Spring Lake MI, Charles (Michelle) of Tampa FL, John (deceased), and James of Jackson MI. He loved to cheer on all his grandchildren in whatever endeavor pursued, Thomas, Brian, Carla, Donald, Michael, Shelby, Delaney and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Marian (Surbrook) Dodge, his son John Michael, his brothers James (Jim) and William (Jack), his sisters Margaret Olds and Joanne Maltby.
Bob spent many summers at the family cottage in Orland, Maine starting in 1964. He and his siblings went to summer camp at Camp Sparta in their youth and were able to purchase it when it went up for sale after the death of EP Wilder, good friend and owner. Swimming, paddling canoes, hiking and later running and golf were some of the many activities he enjoyed with family. He also was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Michigan Wolverines. Bob was a long-time member and volunteer at the First Baptist Church in Jackson.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church 201 Jackson St. Jackson, MI on Monday July 3, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dallas Flippin officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Watson Funeral Home from 4 to 6 pm Sunday July 2, 2023.
