Richard F. Silcher of Jackson, MI went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at the Cascade Care Center. He was the son of Albert R. Silcher and Marie A. Silcher, born on August 18, 1941, in Jackson, MI.
Richard is survived by his sister, Rosanne Venema, and his niece, Dr. Christine Serafin (Manning), as well as special friends Shawna Tello, Jim Quillen, George Haynes, Jim Dewland, Matt Curfman, Terri and Gary Schultz, Janine Harris, and his beloved YMCA family. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Donald Venema.
Richard graduated from Jackson High School. He gave selflessly of his time, talent, and treasure as a long-time volunteer of the Jackson YMCA. He worked many days from sunup to sundown, at the YMCA, helping in the facilities department, maintaining fitness equipment, and coaching rowing.
Richard enjoyed traveling, sailing, sculling, biking, running, and spending time with his family or at his local churches, Trinity Lutheran and St. Mary Star of the Sea on Wesley Street. He had the kindest eyes and a humble heart. He shared incredible life stories with his closest friends and was a thoughtful listener to friends and strangers.
Richard’s family and friends would like to express their gratitude to the teams at Cascades Care Center and Family Services, and Children’s Aid. Richard was appreciative of the care and support he received, as well as the relationships he had with the staff.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Watson Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. on August 14th . Pastor Derek Riddle of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. A Memorial Mass, officiated by Father Tim Nelson, will be held on August 15, 2025 at 9:00am. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery.

Visitation will take place on August 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Watson Funeral Chapel.
