Of Jackson, MI went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home at the age of 63. He was the son of Richard and Wynne (Friend), born May 26, 1956 in Lansing, MI. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nancy Friend; three children, Scott (Autumn) Friend, Shanna (John) Price, and Joshua (Kami) Friend; six grandchildren, Emri, Alli, Mady, Aden, Avah, and Channing; sister, Denise (Ed) Rockwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Matthew and Marshall Friend. Richard was a graduate of Jackson Community College with a Degree of Criminal Justice. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. Richard retired after 28 years of service as a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan. Following his retirement, he worked for 6 years as a courier for Henry Ford Allegiance Health. He enjoyed being outdoors, home and landscape maintenance, classic cars, artillery, and loved being with his grandchildren. According to Richard’s wishes anatomical donation to the Michigan State University has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 4:30pm with Pastor Raymond Torres officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home and Dr. Sidiropoulos and his staff at the MSU Neurology.
The family will receive friends at the chapel on Friday from 3:30pm until the time of service at 4:30pm.
