Phyllis Jean Slete

Phyllis Jean Slete of Jackson and Spring Arbor, our loving mother and grandmother was called home to her Lord on June 13, 2022. Born April 12, 1926, in Plymouth, IN. Phyllis had a lengthy career as a registered nurse, working in many areas of patient care. She cared for military veterans as a nurse in the US Army Nurse Corps after WW II. It was during this time, she met and fell in love with her husband, Ernest. Phyllis completed her nursing career working in the office and as the surgical scrub nurse for Dr. John P. Ludwig in Jackson, Michigan.

Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies, she was a talented seamstress, knitter, crocheter, and painter. She was a gifted quilter, making beautiful quilts for all her family to cherish in her memory. She was one of the founding members of the Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild of Jackson Michigan. Phyllis was a member of Sandstone Congregational Church, a member of Dorcas, and sang in the church choir for many years.

Surviving are her 4 children, Rebecca Rouse, Ernest Kent (Cynthia) Slete, Pamela (Donald) Keeler, and Dr. Frederic (Susan) Slete; 8 grandchildren; Steve (Tammy) Rouse, Barbara Kennedy, Kelly (Matthew) McCune, Christopher (Jessica) Keeler, Jarrod (Stephanie) Keeler, Leanne Keeler, Lauren (Dr. Sean) Mohon, Dr. Kelsey (Dr. Trevor) Eckenswiller; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, James (Peggy) Clevenger, sister, Betty Vidas, and many more family members and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Slete in 2001; parents, Walter M., and Edna E. Clevenger; sister, Lois Dodson; grandson, Nathan Thomas Keeler; great grandson, Isaac James Keeler.

A Funeral Service honoring Phyllis’ life will be on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Sandstone Congregational Church, 710 S. Sandstone Rd. Jackson, MI 49201, with Pastor Justin Nierer and Pastor Emeritus Dr. Bradley Smith officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 1-4 P.M. at the Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Rd, Jackson, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be at Spring Arbor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Phyllis Jean Slete to Sandstone Congregational Church, 710 S. Sandstone Rd.
