Pauline Wiedmer Hoffman passed away peacefully on August 10, 2021, confident in her faith of eternal life with her Lord and Savior. She was born on April 2, 1936, on the farm near Americus, Kansas, the daughter of Peter and Fannie (Dunkin) Wiedmer. She met Howard C. Hoffman, the love of her life, in Denver and they were married on August 27, 1954. The remained devoted Christian partners, parents, and best friends for almost 63 years until his death almost four years ago.
With their growing family they lived for several years in the western U.S, spent four years as missionaries in South Africa, and then settled in Spring Arbor.
Along the way, Pauline went back to college as an adult, earning her bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor College (as it was known then), and Master’s in Social Work from Michigan State University. She played an important role in the development of programs for returning adult students at SAC and was also a practicing social worker in Jackson for several years. She was an active member of the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church, including the church choir, and especially enjoyed the active card ministry she helped organize in her later years.
She is survived by her children Ann, Donna, Mark (Ann), and Paul (Rachel); grandchildren Angie, Patrick, Alice (Ryan), Shadow and Leo, along with new great-granddaughter Audrey. Pauline’s parents and eight siblings all predeceased her.
The family is especially thankful for the professional and loving care she received from the Ganton family and staff at Arbor North and Henry Ford Allegiance Personal Care staff for almost four years, and in her final days at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice.
The family has been served by Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson and a memorial service was held on August 13. Those desiring to make a financial contribution in Pauline’s memory are encouraged to consider doing so by supporting the work of The Arbor Church in Spring Arbor.
