Patricia Ann (Upp) Chipman, age 95, of Jackson, passed away July 28, 2025. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Arnold, and brother Richard Upp. She is survived by her children, Pamela Marie, Bruce Arlin (Judy) and Timothy Arnold (Linda). She has been a devoted fan of her grandchildren Sally Alissa Andersen, Gordon Peter (Katherine) Andersen, Katie Noelle Chipman Bergsma and Stuart Arlin (Anna) Chipman Bergsma, Adam Charles (Jessica) Chipman and Polly Ann Chipman (David Hanson -fiance’), Rebecca Aimee Chipman (Ryan Niblett) and Jonathan Alonzo (Bethany) Chipman. Her love of family is her legacy to great grandchildren Oliver Clayton, Eli Peter, Calvin Everett, Frank Daniel, Maeby Alissa, Charlton Allen, Kinsley Parker, Wrenley Marie, Benjamin Adam, Jennifer Marie, Elliot Ann, Oakley Elizabeth, Hope Allyn, Korben Grey, Stacy Lynn and Jayden William. Loving family members who have always been a cherished presence in Patricia’s life include Renee Chipman, Sally Olin, and Patricia’s two nieces Julie Upp (Earl Bogrow) and family Hannah (Alex) and Claire (Alex) also Sue Upp and her daughter Lily.
Patricia was born in Reed City, Michigan to Dorothy Alice (Wilson) and Arlin Ervin Upp on May21st ,1930. She graduated from Reed City High School and continued her education at Michigan State College receiving a Bachelors degree in Home Economics, later returning to Michigan State University to complete a Masters degree in Education. Patricia was a teacher at Vandercook Lake, Hunt Junior High and Parkside Middle School. With her husband Herbert (Chip) they raised their family in Jackson. Both were involved in scouting, Patricia also had a 4- H group. The family traveled via car with camper across the United States. Pat and Herb had separate interests, but often were seen together at boat shows, Elk’s meetings and weaving conferences. She retired from teaching to pursue a second career as a volunteer at Ella Sharp Museum and First United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Vista Grande Villa, she was active in AAUW, Jackson Handweavers Guild and the Michigan League of Handweavers. Patricia loved reading, art and design. Her love of traveling took her to France, England, Italy, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Mexico and Costa Rica, where she ziplined through the forest canopy at the young age of 70.
At her request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 4th at 3pm, at Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan with Chaplain Scott Kuepfer officiating. Interment will be September 5th at Fort Custer by her beloved companion and husband, Herb.
