Nelda R Hoffer

Nelda Ruth Hoffer, 78, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Nelda was born in Herron, Michigan, where she spent her early years before marrying the love of her life, Michael Ray Hoffer. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1967, in Herron, and shared 58 wonderful years together filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Michael; her sons, Michael (Lisa) Hoffer and Matthew (Stephanie) Hoffer; and her grandchildren, Cindy Par, Makayla (Stone) Bond, Jay Rendon, Mikey Hoffer, and Lillian Hoffer. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Dante.

Nelda is also survived by her sister, Gladys (John) Anderson; her brother, Howard (Earlene) Kemnitz; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Edna Kemnitz (Hasse), and her siblings, Elaine Kemnitz, Joyce (Bill) Wehofer, Edna (Jack) High, Willis (Carol) Kemnitz, Norma (Ron) Thiem, Jean (Ernie) Eller, Marion (Harry) Schultz, Glen (Linda) Kemnitz, and Irma (Ron) Genschaw. Nelda made her home in Spring Arbor for many years, where she was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She faithfully served her church community as both a Sunday school teacher and treasurer, sharing her time and talents generously. She was also a proud member of the Quilters.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing cards, spending time at the family cottage, and most of all, being with her grandchildren. Nelda loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed her daily walks and hiking in Arizona. She was known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and potato salad, which were favorites among family and friends. She also enjoyed connecting daily with friends over Wordle, a small tradition that brought her great happiness.

Above all, Nelda will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her family, and the love she shared so freely. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 18, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3637 Spring Arbor Rd, Jackson, MI 49201. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow immediately in the fellowship hall.
