Myrna M. Benn, formerly Myrna M. Harrison, passed away peacefully on a rainy Thursday afternoon in March surrounded by her loving family. Myrna was born on January 15th, 1936 to Elgin Sr. and Edna W. Benn of Jackson, MI. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 and retired after over 34 years at Consumers Power where she was an executive in Stock Transfer.
An avid perennial gardener, she loved sitting on her patio with a Frappuccino, watching over her garden and listening to the fountain. She enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren attending camps, excelling in sports, and in academics. She was so proud of her family. She volunteered at Ella Sharp Park and had been a member of the Jackson Garden Club.
As an artist, she was drawn to the creative life through painting and books, weekly trips to the Jackson Library, and a love for literature that she shared with her grandson Ken. Her landscape paintings usually had barns, wagons and pumpkins. Myrna was well known for her smile, laugh, and quick-witted humor. When summer was over, she looked forward to the annual mother-daughter fall trips up north with Kim, her dear sister Mary and niece Karen. Kim, her daughter, kept her on adventures all the time, including seeing Elton John in concert twice, which was the highlight of 2022 for her. No adventure was too big or small.
Myrna is preceded in death by parents Elgin and Edna W. Benn. Sister Belle (Jim) Leroy, brother E.J. ( Elaine ) Benn and her sister, Mary L. Zelmanski. She is survived by her only child, Kimberly (Ronald) Jakubas and her grandchildren Erika (Rick) Stergakos and Kenneth (Shannon) Jakubas (her pride and joy were her great grandchildren, Maverick, Sedrick, Owan and Madilynn); her brother Duane (Mary) Benn and brother-in-law Jim Zelamnski; many nieces and nephews; step-daughter Marti Rose, step-grandchild Destiny Rose and special friends Jan and Evan Rodriguez, Janet Kingsley, and Brenda Greenland.
According to her request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life and “Party” will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 2590 Spring Arbor Rd, Jackson, MI on Friday, April 14, 2023 with visitation at 12:00 p.m. with the service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for her great-grandchildren‘s academic future success.
A special thank you to their entire team of nurses and staff at Henry Ford Hospice Home Care and the Henry Ford Hospice Home.
Myrna was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and Great GaGa that will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
