Muriel Jean Ort of Jackson, MI peacefully passed away into the presence of the Lord with her daughters by her side on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the age of 76. She was the daughter of Brig. Joshua and Florence Monk and his 2nd wife, Doris Monk, born June 10, 1945 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Muriel is survived by her two daughters, Laura (Jerry) Smith, and Heather (Troy) Kaiser; grandchildren, Faith and Luke Smith, and Caleigh and Nicholas Kaiser; brother, Ken (Carol) Monk. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Muriel was a graduate of Spring Arbor University, and worked as a teacher’s aide at Jackson Public School for over 10 years. She was a member of a prayer group that met every Monday for over 30 years. Muriel was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ for over 46 years where she served as an Elder. She enjoyed biking, walking, watching the ducks at Cascades, and eating ice cream. Muriel lived her life putting God first and wanting others to know the love of God. She loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother. She felt blessed by her grandchildren and her sons-in-law. Muriel was a bright light in this world and will be greatly missed.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 5:00pm at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, MI 4203 with Pastor Judy Goodrow officiating. Flowers are welcomed and memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00pm until the time of service at 5:00pm
