Michael "Mike" Anderson Obituary

Mike Anderson of Concord, MI passed away January 12, 2024 after brave struggle with long term health issues. Mike was the son of Carol and Charles Anderson.  He was born November 9, 1960 in Lima, Ohio.  Mike graduated from Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, Ohio and went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Wittenberg University.

Mike moved to the Jackson area and worked at Jacobson’s Stores in the Central Office. There he oversaw the clerical staff for the Buying Offices. He also was directly involved with updating floor sales from handwritten sales tickets to computerized SKU number tickets. A short time later, he moved into phone and communication sales in Lansing. Then Mike found his niche as a sales rep for Safety Systems, Inc.  He earned NICET certification and had over $1.5 million dollars in sales in a year; a company record at the time.

Mike was a people person. His friendly demeanor, integrity, product knowledge and after sales service earned him long time customers. He treated his friends and acquaintances with the same energy and compassion. He had a great sense of humor and put others at ease.

Part of Mike’s gifts in life was his desire to give back to his community. He was an Observer for the Hot Air Jubilee for 23 years and its director for 6 years. He was a member, president, and Zone 1181 Director of the Lions Host Club in Jackson. Mike was a Junior Achievement volunteer teacher in elementary classrooms and a member of the Mini Indy board. He also served on the Concord Community Schools Board of Education (2 terms) and served as Board President during that time. In addition, Mike was a volunteer youth basketball and football coach for his sons’ teams and was an assistant Varsity Basketball coach at Concord High School.

Mike loved working in the yard, playing catch or fishing with his boys. His favorite fishing hole was anywhere along the Manistee River or just a quiet summer evening on Swains Lake with his family.  He will forever be a huge fan of Ohio State football and basketball.

Mike leaves behind his loving family, wife of 37 years, Melissa, sons Christian and MacKenzie (Alyssa) Anderson and granddaughter Celeste, his brothers Steve, Matt and Paul Anderson and their families.  All of Mike’s family will miss him dearly and will forever hold him close in their hearts.   Mike touched many lives in his 63 years and we are better for it.

Cremation, per Mike’s wishes, has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm at the Watson Funeral Chapel, Spring Arbor Road location.
