Michael E. Smalley

Michael E. Smalley of Rives Junction, formerly of Owosso, passed away May 21, 2020 age 72 years.  Surviving are his wife of 50 years Betty; three sons Michael E. (Terri) Smalley, Edward J. (Susan) Smalley, and Thomas F. (Daniel) Smalley, one daughter Gwen E. (Brent) Schoemer; six grandsons, Edward Jr., Elliot, Michael III, Jaymon, Everet and Gabriel, three sisters, two brothers, numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was a 1966 graduate of Owosso High School, and was Sergeant for the 11th Calvary Division of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam earning three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.  He was a dedicated employee for Georgia Pacific and Premier corrugated retiring in 2000. He was a lifetime member of the DAV, V.F.W Post 7309 and the American Legion Post 29. Being an avid outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing, sports and especially baseball.  He was a hardworking devoted husband dedicated to his family. 

Mr. Smalley is at the Watson Funeral Chapel where private family visitation and rosary will be held. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.  Father Tim MacDonald officiating.   Interment will follow at East Rives Cemetery.  Friends who wish may make contributions in his name to the Disabled American Veterans 817 Justin Ave. Jackson, Mi 49203
