Michael Gerald Risner of Jackson passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 8th after a long, courageous battle with AML leukemia. Michael was born to Wendy (Johnson) and Mitchell Risner, who precedes him in death. Michael graduated from Lumen Christi High School in 2005 and attended Jackson College for EMT/Paramedic. He worked for the State of Michigan at the Cooper Street Correctional Facility. He loved his job and his coworkers. He received several awards, including the Warden’s Coin of Achievement for saving a life. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Michelle (Molden) Risner. He was father to Maisey (Kyle Franson) Schuler and Marek Risner. He was the son-in-law of Michael and Margie Molden. He was brother-in-law to Melissa and Jason Blood, Michael and Catherine Molden, and Melanie Molden and uncle to Zachary Phillips, Brendan and Drew Blood, and Sophie and Michael Molden III. He was nephew to Mark and Mary Anne Sayers, Tony and Toni Johnson, Joseph and Lisa Johnson, and Steven and Kristi Johnson, and had numerous cousins. Michael played football, soccer, baseball, and basketball. He enjoyed taking his children and nephews fishing. He was an avid gamer who found joy in creating graphics. Michael loved his faithful dogs, Cami and Loki, who miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 14th, 2024, at Watson Funeral Chapel (2590 Spring Arbor Rd, Jackson, MI) from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. A Celebration of his Life will be held Monday, January 15th, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (707 N. Waterloo St, Jackson, MI) with Father Chas Canoy officiating. Family will receive friends at the church at 10 a.m. with Mass following at 11 a.m., Interment St. John Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in his memory can be made to the family.
