Of Jackson, Michigan passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of December 19, 2020 with his beloved Australian Shephard Dora Belle by his bedside. Mike was the son of Rayner G. and Catherine M. (Freundl) Grandy-Hatch and was born November 22, 1937 in Jackson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Valentina P. Grandy of 58 years; his son Patrick J. Grandy; his parents; siblings, Rayner (Nick) Grandy, Anne (Julie) Duey, Frances Bradley; and granddaughter, Alexis Emmou. Mike is survived by three children Kristen Sanchez of Las Vegas, NV, Deborah (Don) Taylor of Denver, CO and Dianna Emmou of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren, Michael Sanchez, Darian Emmou, Franck Emmou Jr., Christopher Grandy and Nicole Taylor; sister, Mary (Susie) M Jender; aunt, Barb Freundl; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Steve Sparks, Chris Pond, Jenny Donner, Margie Scarlet Petroff, Willard Rappleye, Jimmy Rappleye, Nancy Backinger, Mary MeDermott, Coco and BJ Irvin, Margaret Gregory, Helen Yukich, Danielle Ross, and all his lifelong friends from St. Mary's. Mike graduated from Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea High School in 1955 and was a member of the State Champion Football Team. He went on to play for Ferris State on a football scholarship and was a walk on to Michigan States Football program. He had a love of football and Michigan State his whole life. Mike pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering and became a member of the Jackson, Michigan business community running Spartan Contracting and Fabricating and Spartan Plumbing and Heating. He and his wife Valentina had a love of the land and animals. He enjoyed his farm in his spare time planting large gardens, smoking meats, raising farm animals, cooking and entertaining friends and family in his home and pole barn. Mike’s large group of friends, family and acquaintances will miss his outgoing personality, lifetime love of learning and his wit. Mike had the knack to make new friends wherever he went. A special thank you to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice and All About Care for their kind personalities and loving support during Mike’s final days. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place at a later date with Father Tim Nelson officiating, inurnment at St. John Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mike may be made to either Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church stained glass fund, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice.
