Mary Haynes Laponsey
Age 96, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1929 her father was a World War I veteran, semi-pro baseball player and labor organizer in Toledo and Detroit. Her mother was a teacher for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, New Mexico and New Brunswick, Canada.
After graduating, from Michigan State College, Mary taught art and english in the Owosso, Michigan Public School system. After retiring, she continued her education and eventually held three master’s degrees in fine art and ancient architecture.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert Laponsey (Elizabeth) of Onondaga, Michigan and Brian Laponsey (Rachel) of Northville, Michigan; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
