Mary Joanne Ganton (Sawyer) of Jackson, age 77, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. She was born in Jackson, MI on April 29, 1943 to the late Jim and Verna Sawyer.
She grew up in Jackson and Lincoln Park, MI. After Mary Jo Graduated from Lincoln Park High School her family moved back to Jackson where she met and married the love of her life, Roy Ganton. They settled in Jackson and began their 56 years of marriage. Mary Jo was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She enjoyed life, spending time with her family, walking with friends, traveling up north, and in recent years attending her grandchildrens' numerous concerts, recitals, theater performances, 4H events, and sporting events. She will be remembered for her kindness, beautiful smile, willingness to help and fun-loving spirit.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband Roy, children Susie Conklin(Chris) and Steve Ganton (Chris), her brother Jim Sawyer(Joanne), grandchildren Caila Conklin, Ryan Conklin, Chelsea (Ganton) Skaggs and Emily Ganton, many special nieces and nephews, and special friends ( Kim, Jan, Jan and Kathy). Her family would like to especially thank friends and family for all the meals, visits and emotional support they have given and the amazing staff at HFA Hospice Home and the visiting Home Hospice staff for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Mary Jo.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions, a small service celebrating her life will be held at Arbor Grove Congregational Church in Jackson on Friday, May 14th at 12:00pm. Mary Jo's family will receive family and friends for visitation at the church before the service from 11:00-12:00pm.
