Mary Elizabeth Fairley, 77, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21st, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grammie, aunt, and friend, Mary touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.
Born on November 9, 1946, in Jackson, Michigan, Mary was the beloved daughter of Leonard Frank Genco and Frances Ann Genco (Fierstine), who preceded her in death. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1964 and worked hard to earn her Accounting Degree from Jackson Community College while raising her children. For over 25 years, Mary dedicated herself to her work at Foote (Allegiance) Hospital, where she also led hospital food drives.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Michael Fairley, and their four children: Cathy (Rick) Markham, Cindy (Dan) Trygstad, Becky (Shad) Sellers, and Kevin (Michelle) Fairley. She took immense pride in her six grandchildren: Andrew, Kaitlyn, Emily, Carter, Morgan, and Mackenzie, who brought her endless joy.
She loved traveling and making memories with her brothers and sisters: James (Carol) Genco, Ann (Tim) Bethel, Len (Gloria) Genco, and Pam Manor. She was a special aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and enjoyed the memories she shared with her many cousins. Mary’s friendships were equally cherished, and she will be missed by many, including her dear friend of 60 years, Louise Baker.
Mary had a passion for nature, traveling, and gardening, but her true joy came from spending time with her family. Whether simply enjoying time with her children or attending her grandchildren’s events, Mary’s life was dedicated to the ones she loved most.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 2 p.m. at The Stables, 9011 North Meridian Road, Pleasant Lake, MI 49272. Dinner will be served following the service at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be collecting donations for the Be More For Someone Scholarship through the Jackson Community Foundation, a cause close to Mary’s heart.
Mary’s legacy of kindness, devotion, and love will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
