Butch was born on February 14, 1945 and passed on Thursday, January 12 at his home after a year and a half battle with leukemia and complications of chemotherapy. He is survived by his wife, Colette, of 26 years. Children Kristen Brown (Randy), Michael “Todd” Lyons (Jamie), Kerry Redman, and Charles “Richie” Betts. Grandchildren Mat Negus (Mandy), Luke Lyons, Codie Betts, Megan Thorrez (Matthew), Elle Redman, and Cassie Betts. Father-in-law, Richard Ackerman. Sister-in-law, Connie Howe. Brother and sister-in-law, Denny and Annette Wellman. Three great granddaughters and one great grandson. Many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Roy, and mother, Edith Lyons. His brother, Chip Lyons. His sister Marlene Warren.
Butch graduated from Hanover Horton High School in the class of 1963. He entered the work force after graduation where he worked at Corning Glass Works for a short period. He finished his career of 32 years as a splicing technician for Michigan Bell in 1997.
He was a life member of the Horton Masonic Lodge (Lodge 293), North American Hunting Association, and The Big 9 Sportsman Club.
Butch was an avid sportsman where he enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing. Throughout the years, he has gathered an impressive collection of his trophies which he proudly displayed in his barn.
A celebration of his life will be held at Watson Funeral Chapel located at 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, MI 49203 on Wednesday, January 18 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place at Watson Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 17 from 4-7 PM with a Masonic memorial service starting at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday, January 18 from 10-11 AM.
Interment will take place at the Horton Cemetery following the service which will then be followed by a luncheon at The Big 9 Sportsman Club.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Horton Congregational Church located at 1105 Moscow Road, Horton, MI 49246 and/or Jackson Shriners Club (Dave Green) at PO Box 87, Horton, MI 49246.
