Lois Elaine Lake (nee Bicknell) of Spring Arbor, MI, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2023, while comfortably resting at her care home in Jackson, Michigan. She was the daughter of Joseph Emmett Bicknell and Mary Esther Bicknell of New Carlisle, OH. Lois was born June 29, 1942, in New Carlisle, OH. She had 3 siblings, Lowell, Lynda, and Louis. She was married to Allan Kenneth Lake of Spring Arbor, MI who preceded her meeting their Savior in 2022. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Lois is survived by their four children Scott (Rachel), Lisa (Brian), Heather (David), and Heidi (Steven), and their 14 grandchildren Nathan, Emma, Benjamin, Lydia, Meghan, Evan, Kyle, Jonathan, Chloe, Evalee, Grant, John, Caleb and Esther.
Lois graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1960, and from Bethel College in 1964 with a bachelor of arts degree. Lois worked as an elementary school teacher in the Walled Lake Consolidated School System in Oakland County, MI, from 1964-1968 at Twin Beach Elementary, as a substitute from 1980-1986, and returned to full time teaching at Glengary Elementary in 1986. Lois was also part of the staff at Pleasant Lake Elementary from it's opening in 1990 through to her retirement in 2003.
Lois was an avid walker, and crafter, undertaking many different crafts over her life such as decoupage, sewing, knitting, stamping, baking, and canning. Her strawberry jam was a favorite of Allan's and her children and grandchildren. Lois had a passion for women's ministries, leading the ministry at Clarkston Free Methodist Church for many years. In retirement, Lois also tutored underprivileged students in the Lakeland, FL area. The family would like to extend their thanks to Brightside Assisted Living and Memory Care for their kind and loving care of Lois in her final couple of years.
According to Lois' request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at The Arbor Church, 120 E Main St, Spring Arbor, MI 49283, on January 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM, with visitation from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on the same day. As the date approaches, an additional reminder will be posted regarding the memorial service.
