Lois J Kelly

Age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10th. She was the daughter of Orville and Ladonna (Swift) Schumm of LaPorte, Indianna, who predeceased her and also was preceded in death by her brother John G. Schumm.

She was born in LaPorte, Indianna on July 31, 1936. She was married to Roy Kelly for nearly 63 years, who predeceased her. She is survived by her sister-in-law Jody Schumm and family; children John and wife Pamela, Brian and wife Mary, grandchildren Christoper and wife Julie, Nathan and wife Aura Lee, Matthew and wife Maria, Gretchen and fiancé' Raj Parikh; great grandchildren Makai Mercedes and Phillipa Loie. Lois graduated from LaPorte High School in 1954, received a Bachelor's degree of Science in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 1958 and a Master's degree from Michigan State University in 1968. She was an elementary school teacher in Elkhart, Indianna (2 years), Ann Arbor, Michigan (1 year) and Jackson, Michigan (28 years). She retired in 1995 from the Jackson Public School System. She was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jackson for 61 years.

She enjoyed knitting, baking Thanksgiving pies and Christmas cookies, and reading. She and Roy made 9 trips to other countries as well as traveling to all 50 states. Recently she had been writing new resident profiles while living at Vista Grande Villa in Jackson as well as serving on Resident Council. According to her request cremation has taken place.

A celebration of her life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 18th at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kate Schroeder presiding. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. prior to the service. Internment will take place at the Immanuel columbarium immediately following the ceremony. A light supper will be served. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanual Lutheran Church Piano Fund, or Jackson High School - Friends Who Care Program that supports homeless students.
