Justina Mae (Fox) Dodge, known affectionately as “Jay”, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a life filled with warmth and devotion.
Jay was born in Jackson, Michigan to parents, Justin and Irene Fox. She grew up in Jackson, graduated from Jackson High School, then earned a degree in Education from Michigan State University. She married Robert Charles Dodge, on June 25, 1955, and together they built a loving home in Jackson, Michigan where she dedicated herself to raising her four children and pursing her many varied interests.
A devoted mother, she is survived by her children: Colette Akers (Jerry) of Spring Lake, MI; Charles Dodge (Michelle) of Tampa, FL; James Dodge of Jackson, MI; 8 grandchildren - Thomas, Brian, Carla, Donald, Michael, Shelby, Delaney, and Wyatt; 10 Great-Grandchildren; and 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren. They all will forever cherish her quick wit and inquisitive spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband - Robert, her son - John Michael Dodge, and her siblings – Ellen Hickey, twin brother Herman Justin “HJ” Fox, and Bernard “Bernie” Fox.
Jay was active in volunteer work for many years at Family Services of Jackson and First Baptist Church supporting many charitable initiatives. She found joy in many activities including golf, yoga, painting, needlepoint and especially reading. Together with Bob they loved going to their children’s and grandchildren’s activities, as well as attending the symphony and community events. Summers in Maine with Bob and family held a special place in her heart.
A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church, 201 Jackson St., Jackson, MI, on Friday, March 7, 2025, with Pastor Dallas Flippin officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the church at 10:00 AM for viewing in the sanctuary; funeral services begin at 11:00 AM; followed by a light luncheon and life reflections in the fellowship hall. Immediate family will oversee interment afterwards at Woodland Cemetery next to her husband.
