Joyce Hirschman passed away on May 9, 2024 with her loving and devoted husband at her side after battling Parkinson’s for many years. Born in Jackson MI, she was the daughter of Walter Leon Lectka and Allie (Kennedy) Lectka. She was married to Robert Hirschman for 63 years and they had two children of whom she was extremely proud; Karen Sue Hirschman, born in 1964, and James (Jim) Robert Hirschman, born in 1967. She has two granddaughters: Victoria (Mike) Meunier and Rebecca (Corey) Noble, and one great-grandson, Mason Michael Meunier. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Sue Hirschman, brothers Donald Leon (Maralyne) Lectka, and step brothers Robert Walter Lectka and William Versaw.
Joyce attended Jackson High School (Class of 1954) and received an Associate’s Degree from Jackson College. She was employed by J.C. Penney Co., Consumers Energy, City Bank, Vandercook Lake Schools, and St Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Joyce was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jackson, MI. since 1953 serving on many committees, particularly enjoying the Women’s Guild, United Methodist Women, and the Child Study Club. She enjoyed traveling, yard work, playing golf, card games, vacationing with family in Florida, and taking the kids, and grandkids on yearly trips throughout the U.S. each summer.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Jackson, MI. with Rev Tonya Arnesen officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Jackson, 275 West Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI 49201.
