Jonathan Orel Packer, 73, of Jackson, Michigan passed away on December 3, 2024. Son of Dale and Evelyn Packer, he is survived by his wife Cheryl, brother Jim (Mary), daughters Brianna (Nick) Lawrence and Allyssa (Josh Walker) Packer, step-son JP (Linzy) Madison and step-daughter Lacey (AJ) Schiel, as well as grandchildren Oliver Lawrence, Alejandra Enamorado, Isabelle and Charleigh Schiel, Johnathan and JC Madison, and Alli and Luke Fuchs, as well as nieces and nephews.
Jon was above all else a man of faith and family. He graduated from Parkside High School in 1969 and went on to study at Western Michigan University. He served his community as an elementary school teacher for 42 years, coached middle school girls basketball, spent his retirement serving Jackson College, and was a lifelong congregation leader at Trinity United Methodist Church. Jon enjoyed staying busy. You could often catch him outside golfing, playing softball, and tending to his lawn. He opened his home to dozens of friends to play sand volleyball in the backyard. He never said “no” to a game of cribbage, a ping pong match, or a game of shuffleboard.
Jon will be missed dearly by his family, his former students, and all who he touched in the community.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 6th, from 3pm to 6pm, and December 7th from 10am to 11am at Watson Funeral Chapel - 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, MI. 49203
Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 7th, at 11am at Watson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Karen S. Wheat and David Goldsmith officiating.
