John Durwood Lentz of Jackson, MI passed away Monday August 17, 2020 at home under the care of Hospice and his sisters by his side after a courageous fight with congestive heart failure. He was the son of L. D. and Eleanor (Stevens) Lentz. He was born on September 25, 1949 in Jackson, MI. He is survived by his brother Larry Lentz; his sisters Linda (Richard) Lake and Doris (John) Schilling; bonus family, sister Sharon Laird; brothers David Fisk and Ronnie Bunnell; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends Jeff Charles, Richard Peek, and Brian Milligan along with many other friends he loved and cherished.
After graduating from Western High School, he joined the Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He loved his career as a butcher until he became disabled. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #612. An avid sports fan of U of M and Detroit Tigers. He loved his family and friends with best times playing golf, cards and some gambling/Keno. The family would love to give a heartfelt “thank you” to Hospice and VA ICU staff.
A Funeral Service will be held on August 25, 2020 at 3:00pm at Kingdom Life Ministries, 1825 Spring Arbor Road, with Pastor Fred Parker Jr. officiating. A private interment will be held on August 26, 2020 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center, 2215 Fuller Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 or the American Heart Association, 2469 Woodlake Circle, Suite 100, Okemos, MI 48864.
There will be public visitation from 1:30pm until the time of service.
