John William Fernau Jr of Jackson, MI passed away at Henry Ford Allegiance Health on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the age of 79.  John was the son of John Sr. and Ruth Alice (Johnson) Fernau, born on December 27, 1941 in Albion, MI.  He is survived by daughter Michelle VanSumeren, daughter Joni (Kevin) Morgel, and son John C.; two grandchildren, Derek (Kelsey) McCallum and Andrew Lau-Fernau; one sister, Ruth Ann (David) Webb; and many nieces.  John was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Judith VanWoert.

He was a graduate of Springport High School and completed two years of engineering technical course work.  John worked at and retired from Aeroquip as a project engineer.  He was not ready to slow down so started a second career as a Realtor with The Brokerage House for many years.  John was highly-regarded by his clients as hard-working and a Realtor with integrity.  He also enjoyed volunteering in the Emergency Room at Henry Ford Allegiance for several years.  John was an avid MSU football fan and season ticket holder for 20 years; loved taking vacations to the Florida Keys and Burt Lake; enjoyed watching the Hallmark movies; and cherished his three Pomeranians, Delbert, Zebulon and Weebo.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service.  In his memory, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Susan G.
