JoAnn was called home to her Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 30, 1944 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Ethel and Ray Teeter. She graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1962 and attended Western Michigan University. She was a gifted cake decorator, making cakes for all occasions. She worked with her husband at Denny’s Mobile Home Service for years. She later worked at Bridgeway Center, and in the Lab at Foote Hospital. Along with her husband she was a member of the Spartan Horn Model “A” Club. She was a 29 year breast cancer survivor and a member of the Renew Breast Cancer Support Group. She loved to bargain hunt and visit garage sales. She was an avid University of Michigan Fan. She enjoyed going on cruises and a good game of cards. But most of all, she lived for her children and her grandsons.
Surviving are her 2 children, Kimberly (Bob) Helm and Steve (Tracy) Smith; 3 grandsons, Alan Smith, Nathan Helm, and Jacob Helm; sister, Ann (Ken) Steinbrenner; brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Curtis; sister-in-law, Mary Curtis; nieces and nephew, Cheryl, Lisa, Tracy, and Brian along with many other family members and friends. JoAnn was preceded in death by husband of 50 years, Dennis Errol Smith in 2013; grandson, Eric Helm in 2010; parents; and 2 brothers, Ed and Dean Curtis.
The celebration of JoAnn’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Village Hope Church, 123 W. Porter St., Jackson, MI 49202 with Pastor Jeremy Toyer officiating. Viewing will be from 10-11 A.M. at church prior to the service. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 18th at Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, MI 49203. Interment will be at 2:30 P.M. at Roseland Memorial Gardens. For those wishing, contributions may be made to Renew Breast Cancer Support Group or Village Hope Church in memory of JoAnn.
