Jean Louise Laughlin

Of Jackson, Michigan passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Henry Ford Allegiance Health at the age of 94.  Jean was the daughter of Russell H. and Ruth M. (Ingram) Bengel born February 11, 1927, in Jackson, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Sheldon, sister Margaret Beckman and her parents. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law Richard Beckman; special good friends Jon and Mary Jo Sutliff. Jean was a graduate of Jackson High School in 1945 and Albion College in 1950. Jean was an Elementary teacher at the former Longfellow School in Jackson. She married her beloved Sheldon in 1964. They lived in Deerfield Beach, Florida from 1965 – 1981 when they returned to Michigan, they lived in the Parma Area, then moved to Vista Grande Villa in 2006. Jean was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; Alpha Delta Rho Sorority. Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at Albion College; The Ella Sharp Museum; Dahlem Center; Jackson Audubon Society; Michigan Wildlife Conservancy; Ducks Unlimited and The Jackson Country Club. Jean was a very generous and hospitable person who loved life and spending time with her family and many friends. “She epitomized what it means to live a life full of adventure and relationship-building.”  “Once in a great while we get to meet those rare lights that remind us age is just a number and life is a gift!” She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jackson on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11:00 am, Reverend Sarah Hurlbert officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jean may be made to Michigan Wildlife Conservancy 6380 Drumhiller Road, P.O. Box 393 Bath, Michigan 48808; Vista Grande Villa 2251 Springport Road, Jackson, MI 49202, or charity of choice.
