Johnson, Janice Arlene (Derscheid)
Of Spring Arbor, Michigan passed away at her home in Concord, Michigan in the early hoursof the morning on Friday, March 6, 2020, at the age of 82. Born on February 21,1938 in Escanaba, Michigan, she was the daughter of Lowell and Helen Derscheid. Jann is survived by her daughters Jacquelynn Johnson and Elizabeth (Samuel) Shaffer, her son, Dr. Craig (Heidi) Johnson, along with six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and her four siblings: Shirley (Ed) Davenport, Larry (Betty) Derscheid, Paul (Linda) Derscheid, Greg (Cindy) Derscheid. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Derscheid, great-granddaughter Florence Elizabeth Price, and her loving husband of 58 years, Dr. David Alfred Johnson. Graduate of Spring Arbor Jr. College and Greenville College, Jann gained her Bachelors in English and Spanish Education before she began her career in teaching. Jann spent most of her career in education, teaching at Hanover Horton High School where she later retired. During her time at Hanover Horton, she was involved in their Spanish and Drama Clubs. Jann was a faithful member of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church, where she spent much of her time working in the nursery, youth group, and teaching Sunday school. She loved to travel and has been to many different countries and states. Jann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an excellent teacher and an active member of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson, Michigan on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. There will be additional visitation time on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church with a celebration of life officiated by Pastor Darold L. Hill to follow at 2:00 PM. Jann’s wish was to be laid to rest in the Spring Arbor Cemetery next to her husband Dr. David Johnson, which will take place at a later date.
