Janet Mae Gillispie

Obituary

Of Spring Arbor, MI (formerly of Quincy, MI) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the age of 81. She was the daughter of Lee Camp and Lila Mae (Lawrence) (Rock) Myers, born May 30, 1940 in Hillsdale, MI.

Janet is survived by her five children, and two step-children, Diana (Desmond) Naughton, Deborah (Kevin) Gillispie, Dorene (Quinn) Fraley, Kathleen (Frank) Gillispie Jr., Paul (Kim) Gillispie Jr., Pamela (Christopher) Simpson; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Myers; sister, Connie Stuart; and numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Franklin Gillispie, Sr.; son, Scott Gillispie; granddaughter, MonaRae Slominski; her parents; sisters, Joyce Marie Culp and Nancy Lee Camp.

Janet happily retired from General Motors after many years of service. She was a strong and independent woman always caring for others. Janet was a long-standing member of Hillsdale Assembly of God where she volunteered a lot of her time. She also enjoyed camping, gardening, canning both for herself and for others, traveling, and shopping. All who knew her knew she was an avid Elvis fan, enjoyed watching sports; especially U of M football, cooking for family gatherings and spending time with her family and friends. She also dearly loved her dog Annabelle.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Dan Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Reading, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm and on Friday from 10:00am until the time of service.
