Jane Baumberger Obituary

Jane Baumberger, age 72, passed away peacefully on her birthday, November 3, 2025 at the Henry Ford Hospice Home, Jackson, Michigan where she had been surrounded by love.

Jane Marilyn (Hyland) Baumberger was born in Madison, South Dakota on November 3, 1953 to Mervin and Mary (Alverson) Hyland.  She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Nunda, SD.  Jane attended Rutland School and graduated with the Class of 1972.

On July 8, 1972, she married Paul Baumberger in Brookings, SD. The two began their life together in Brookings while Paul completed college and their journey took them to Pittsburg, PA, and Independence, MO, before eventually making their home in Jackson, MI.

Jane grew up on a family farm where she developed her lifelong love of the outdoors. She cherished memories of driving tractors and spending time with her siblings and cousins.

Jane worked retail and secretarial positions for several years. They hosted an exchange student when their daughter, Stephanie, was in high school. Jane had a special gift for thoughtfulness – remembering every birthday, anniversary and holiday with a greeting card and a letter that made others feel seen and loved.

Jane also had a passion for traveling. Jane and Paul enjoyed countless summers at South Haven, Michigan, and later spent winter months in Florida.  Jane traveled to Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and made frequent trips “home” to South Dakota to visit family and friends.

Jane is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughter, Stephanie, and son-in-law Dave Richmond; two grandchildren, Taylor (Annie) Wallen and Hunter Richmond all of Jackson, MI. Jane is also survived by four sisters, Garnet (Rol) Wosje of Nunda, SD; Doris (Larry) Ust of Volga, SD; Julie (Allan) Gross of Madison, SD; Lisa Even of Phoenix, AZ; and one brother, Randy (Bev) Hyland of Madison, SD and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Dear to Jane’s heart were her in-laws, Perry (Janell) Baumberger, Arlington, NE, and Pat (Sandy) Baumberger, Blair, NE, as well as special friends, Linda (Ken) Rogeven and Sarah Hasan.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Mervin and Mary Hyland; her brother, Ray, and sister-in-law, Esther Hyland; sister, Susan; a brother in infancy; a nephew, Todd Hyland; and her parents-in-law, Leonard and Florence Baumberger.  Jane’s warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her legacy lives on through the love she shared and the memories she created with those fortunate to know her.
