James “Jimmy” Michael Durbrow
With the heaviest of hearts, we are sad to announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Michael Durbrow of Jackson who peacefully went to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 67. Jimmy was born on August 1, 1956. Survived by the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Cheryl; siblings, Charles Durbrow, Jack (Pat) Durbrow, and Joanne (Daniel) McLaughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Kathleen Durbrow.
“Every man dies. Not every man really lives.” Jimmy was one of those people who lived life to the fullest and left behind so many incredible memories that his family and friends will cherish forever. Throughout his life, he chased his dreams and never let anything stop him from accomplishing them.
Jimmy graduated from Jackson High School in 1974 and before attending college to receive his degree as a Registered Nurse, he joined the band Rich Kidz, where he put his heart and soul into playing the drums with precision and skill while touring cities throughout the United States. Jimmy retired as a Registered Nurse after 17 years of working in the emergency room of the Southern Michigan State Penitentiary (Jackson Prison). During his retirement, Jimmy picked up his drumsticks after a 30-year hiatus and joined the Jackson local band, Blackstone Steel.
Jimmy had a passion for knowledge and religion, and he strived to learn throughout his life continuously. He will always be remembered for being able to carry on conversations with anyone and using the knowledge he gained to help and educate others.
Jimmy was an amazing, strong, kind, and friendly individual who left a lasting impact on everyone he came in contact with. He was an engaging storyteller and educator. He could draw you in with his animated presence and you would hang onto every word. He had a smile that could brighten up the room and an infectious laugh. He was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend throughout his time on this earth and will be remembered for his love of family, driving his Porsche with the top down, playing the drums, and going to the casino.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Watson Funeral Chapel, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson, Michigan 49203. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.
