James Lee Hammond "Jim"
October 1, 1944 - December 31, 2025
James Lee Hammond of Jackson, passed away unexpectedly at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Willson) Hammond, 3 months short of their 50 th wedding anniversary; children, Craig (Christina) Hammond, Susan (Jeremy) Raiford; grandchildren, Amara and Isaac Raiford; sister, Fae Reed (Hammond), as well as many members of his extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fae (Kellicut) Hammond, brothers, Raymond Hammond, Daniel Hammond, and Larry “Buzz” Hammond. Jim was born at home in Horton, and graduated from Hanover-Horton High School in 1963. He retired from Goodyear Distribution Center, and had also worked at State of Michigan Department of Corrections, drove charter bus, and school bus for Michigan Center. Jim served in the Michigan National Guard for 6 years and was sent to Detroit for the 1967 riots. He loved camping, bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was also a cross-country ski instructor. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 2590 Spring Arbor Road, on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Visitation is 12:00pm-2:00pm with the service immediately following. Light refreshments will be available during visitation. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests you please donate to the Jackson County Animal Shelter Emergency Medical Fund in his memory.
