James Walter Obituary

Beloved husband of Audrey Walter (nee Andrews); dear father and father-in-law of Pamela (the late David) Meppelink, Andrea (Christopher) Frankenfield, JoAnn (Joel) Burns and Sarah (Craig) Nall; dear grandfather of Amanda (Peter) Westman, Doug (Camille) Meppelink, Samantha Frankenfield, Luke (Cailyn) Frankenfield, Jake Frankenfiled, Emma (Colin) Delisi, Jack Burns, Rohan Burns, Henry Burns, Zachary Nall, Abby (Luke) Streeter, Kathryn and Sophie Nall; dear great-grandfather of Levi and Ethan; dear brother of Leslie Walter and Eva Jenkins; dear brother-in-law of Edwin (Ruth) Andrews and Joyce (Bob) McIlhenny; our dear uncle, cousin and friend.

Jim passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life marked by quiet strength, deep thought, and genuine kindness.

He was a devoted husband of 64 years, a partnership that stood as a testament to enduring love and commitment. Throughout his life, Jim pursued knowledge and shared it generously as a professor, shaping the minds and lives of many students who will remember him for his wisdom and thoughtful perspective.

Beyond his professional life, Jim found joy and purpose in the simple, steady rhythms of home. He was an avid reader and a deep thinker, always curious, always reflecting. Jim’s faith in Jesus was central to who he was. It guided his actions, shaped his character, and grounded his life in compassion and humility. He was a kind man with a true heart for people—someone who listened, who cared, and who made others feel seen and valued.

He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for who he was: thoughtful, faithful, hardworking, and deeply kind.

Jim Walter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
