James Kolb of Jackson, Michigan passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 94. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Sharon Kolb, children Christopher, Brian (Alice), Jimmy (Laurie), Jeff (Sherri), and grandchildren Angela (Owen) Massey, Amanda (Adam) Norton, Jamie (Brent) Hui, Angie (Andrew) Kestner, Joshua, Johnathan and Jeffrey and great-grandchildren Colin, Brayden (Norton), Lydia, Rowan (Hui), and Stevie (Kestner).

Jim was born in Hartford, Wisconsin on August 15, 1929. He was the son of George and Mae Kolb. Following graduation from Hartford High School, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in various locations throughout the United States. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked for the Ohio Edison Company in Marion, Youngstown, and Akron, Ohio for 10 years before accepting an engineer position at Commonwealth Associates in Jackson. Jim retired from Commonwealth after 23 years. Following his 33 years of service as an engineer, Jim accepted a position as Executive Vice President of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Society of Association Executives and was a member of the Capital Club of Lansing. Jim retired from the society after 10 years of service.

Jim was an active volunteer in his church, Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church. He also served the Jackson Downtown Kiwanis and the Kiwanis Foundation as a Treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors. Jim was also very active in the Jackson Southwest Little League where he served as a coach, board member and later as President. After Jim and Sharon moved to Vista Grand Villa, he served on several committees and on the Resident Council for several years, the last as President and Representative to the Vista Board of Directors. Jim will always be remembered as an avid Green Bay Packers fan where he was a proud owner and former season ticket holder.

A mass in Jim’s honor will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. and will be officiated by Father Timothy MacDonald. Prior to mass, family will greet guests at the church at 9:30 a.m.
