James Thomas Brockway Jr. of Rives Junction, MI went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the age of 86. He was the son of James and Ethel (Higgins) Brockway, born April 25, 1933 in Detroit, MI. James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Brockway; daughter, Teresa Brockway; sister-in-law, Joan DeBruler; brother-in-law, Richard Gumbert; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Virgil Carter and Duane Carter; sister-in-law, Jane Gumbert; and aunt, Alice Geraldine Foster.
James went to the teaching school of Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit, MI where he received his Journeyman Toolmaker Card. He then went to work for the Ford Motor Company where he retired after 42 years of service as a Research Technician. James was a member of the Bible Methodist Church in Vandercook Lake. He loved Ford cars, gardening, working on cars, singing, and listening to music especially the Gaithers. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Burcham Hills Center for Health and Rehabilitation and Reverend John and Lois Kennedy and the congregation of Lower Light Church in Melvindale, MI.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Central Wesleyan Church, 119 N. Webster St., Jackson, MI 49201 on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 1:00pm with Pastor Bart Hall and Pastor Chris Hilling officiating. Interment will follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jerusalem Prayer Team, PO Box 30000 Phoenix, AZ 85046. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00pm until the time of service at 1:00pm.
