Gerald Lee Walters, Sr.

Our loving father, grandpa, and great-grandpa was called unexpectedly home to his Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Born February 19, 1938 the son of George and Louada Walters in Jackson, Michigan.
Gerald is survived by 2 children, Constance Merling, and Kimberly (Kevin) Hill; daughter-in-law, Laurie Walters; grandchildren, Brian Walters, Crystal Parney, Derie Kampf, Elizabeth Murphy, Chase Merling, Emily Barton, Jamie Walters, Jennifer Gilbert, Jessica Young, Skylar Walters, Chelsea Forrest, and Cayla Hill; along with 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Jan) Smith; many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edna M. Walters in November 2023; daughter, Nancy Walters; son, James; and grandson, Aaron; his parents; 2 sisters, June and Georgie.
He attended Adrian High School. He served 9 years in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Sargent working with tanks and machinery. He retired from Simpson Industries after 35 years of service. In retirement, he worked at Hankard Hills Golf Course in Pleasant Lake for 10 years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and swimming. Most of all, Gerald loved being outside gardening, working in his yard, or going to his cottage in Harrison, MI. He was an avid member of New Horizons Community Church for years.
The celebration of Life for Edna and Gerald will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at New Horizon Community Church, 4300 Lansing Ave., Jackson, MI 49201 with Pastor Jerry Lyon and Pastor Doug Bilby officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 24th at church prior to services. Military Honors will be provided the American Legion Post Honor Guard.
